The article is from Scientific American
Topic of reading passage:

  • New homes on the range because global warming is forcing animals to move.

Main points about the topic:

  • A seven-year survey in Yosemite National Park shows the transformation of California wildlife due to the climate changing. 16 of 28 species documented by the report has moved as far as 3280 feet to search for climes. And there are at least three edging to extinction.
  • Some animals, like California vole, and pocket mouse expand their ranges by colonizing higher ground. Some animals, like chipmunk and bushy-tailed woodrat, already live in the highest ranges, but they suffer the limited habitat.
  • The relationship between increasing temperature and the habitant changing of tiny animals remain unclear to know the exact changes. Animals move due to declining and thriving. Climate change might be the reason, though.
  • Conclusion: Yosemite Park is a perfect lab for research, a best-case scenario because it is protected by law.
