Present your perspective.
“Both the development of technological tools and the uses to which humanity has put them have created modern civilization in which loneliness is ever increasing.”
Basically I agree this description that the technology advance and humanity approach technology contribute to the civilization, but they still bring the loneliness of human. However, I think we need to give a deep thought in the mechanism of those two factors to understand this passive viewpoint.
While the advance of technology contributes modern civilization, the loneliness increases with the progress. After industrial revolutions, the world became a new- era civilization. New types of production made people have a brand new way of living in the modern civilization. We also had invented technological tools for the need of new economy. At the same time, products, such as phones and e-mails, presented the revolution of communication for human to contact more frequently and conveniently. The goals of inventions were for the satisfaction of physical and emotional needs in a bustle and hostile life pace. Nevertheless the good motivation of improvement in life quality, more problems came up with the communication that massive information by those devices enter people’s life -the information explosion. People not only have to deal with the heavy workload everyday, but also need to receive more information out of their experience.
So technology advance don’t overwhelmingly give us a promising future. Communication revolution combines the technology with insightful human need, but the advantages of fast and open result in more tense, stressful and time-consuming situations. People have to spare more time in answering phone calls, deleting spam, and reviewing useful information in order to catch up the trend. People remain isolated after they manage lots of information flow. Furthermore, the isolations accelerates when the information overload for individuals. People cannot afford overloading, and feel more aliened.
As a result, technology maybe changes the face of traditional communication in the surface. Contrast to that, more severe loneliness demonstrates the side effects to individual schedules and psyches. Thus, I think the perspective is reasonable.
